Patricia E. Bootay

January 3, 1925  -  April 18, 2017

Patricia Elizabeth (Lehrer) Bootay, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, long term resident of both Pleasant Hills PA and Little River, SC passed away on April 18, 2017 at the age of 92.
On January 3, 1925, Patty was welcomed into the world by her parents, William Peter Lehrer and Frances Rieff (Meuser) Lehrer, and her adoring older siblings, Bill, Jack and Ginny.   The family lived in Staten Island NY, moving briefly to Columbus OH before settling in Upper Montclair NJ.   Always active, Patty was an avid tennis player and a member of the New Jersey Intramural Championship Basketball team of 1943 while in high school.
Upon graduation, Patty made her mark in New York City, working in publishing while modeling with the Clinton Conover Modeling Agency.  She maintained her roots at home as an engaged member of the Montclair Athletic Club and Montclair Operetta organization.
It was at the New Jersey shore where Patty met the love of her life, Robert S. (Boots) Bootay.  Upon first seeing Boots, Patty prophetically declared to a friend, “that is the man I am going to marry!”.   Both from Upper Montclair, they made an immediate connection and indeed married shortly thereafter on March 20, 1948.
As a young family with two small sons in tow, they moved to Pittsburgh PA from Atlanta, GA in 1958, settling in Pleasant Hills a year later.  For the next twenty years they raised their family and built their life as involved members of the community.  Patty served as the President of the Pleasant Hills Community United Presbyterian Church’s Women’s Association and was a member of the Pleasant Hills Zoning Board.  Active in her professional life as well, Patty spent 10 years with The Fabric Tree, first as Manager of the South Hills Village store and over time as the Area Manager for Western PA and Eastern OH.
In 1979 Patty and Boots happily retired to Little River SC where Patty made her home for the next 30 years.  Still a vigorous volunteer, Patty ran town voting polls, was a member of the association of Windjammer Village and President of the annual rummage sale for her North Myrtle Beach church - St. Stephens Episcopal.
After Boots, her husband of 50 years passed away, Patty began to experience her own health issues.  In 2009 she returned to Pleasant Hills to be near family and friends and joyfully rejoin the Pleasant Hills Community United Presbyterian Church, surrounded by those who love her dearly.
Patty was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband Robert S, and oldest son, Robert (Bob), Jr.  She leaves behind a loving family who miss her deeply; her son Brian, of New Jersey, daughter-in-law Lynne, three doting grandchildren as well as six adoring great-grandchildren - Robert III (Liz),Grace, Robert IV and David Bootay: Elizabeth (Andy), Faith, Lillian and Charlotte Rockwell and SGT. Glen A. Bootay, all of Pleasant Hills.
A Memorial Service will be held at Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road, Pittsburgh PA, 15236, on Saturday May 6 2017 at 11 am.
